Rabbit Proof Fence

This is a must see that tells the story of Australia's stolen generation. Australia had a "White Australia" policy until 1974. During this time many Aboriginal children were taken away from their families and placed in orphanages or raised by white families. Many of the families who were given Aboriginal children to raise treated them as slaves or abused them. The idea behind the program was that the children could be trained to live and behave like white people. Half caste children were especially a target as it was believed that the Aboriginal gene could be bred out if they mixed with and married white people.

This is the story of two girls who were taken away from their mother and placed in an orphanage. The girls escaped from the orphanage and followed a rabbit proof fence in order to find their way back to their mother. The journey was a very long one and authorities did their best to find the girls in order to return them to the orphanage. An amazing true story that is well written and historically correct.
